2002 Hiram Scott College Reunion Report

July 19 & 20, 2002

The Hiram Scott Reunion went well. We had about 75 attendees including Dr. Marinaccio and his wife, Dr. Maxene Marinaccio. Dick Beechner, football coach. Board of Director members Duane Kizzier, Cal Lenhart and Jim Massey. The Dean of Women Marjorie Robbins, and instructors, Dr Howard Backous and Nancy Holland. Recruiter and later Dean of Men, Ron Niece.

The rest were mostly students and a few benefactors and friends of HSC. We held a golf tournament won by Ron Niece on Friday morning. There were tours of the old HSC campus hosted by the new owners, The University of Nebraska. On Friday evening we had cocktails at the Elks Lodge in Scottsbluff and a banquet later on. Dr. Marinaccio’s daughter, Karen Bacon, from Lincoln, NE was there for the BBQ festivities on Saturday afternoon and produced a birthday cake for her father’s 90th birthday. The man remains an inspiration to this date and it is obvious why Scottsbluff followed him in the creation of HSC

For nearly 30 years the question has been asked about who actually started the school and what was the cause of its demise. In celebration of this reunion, Dr. Marinaccio wrote a book about the beginning and the end of Hiram Scott College. Simply named “The Hiram Scott College Story” is available on CD. Go to the "Buy the Book" tab. Send a check and I'll send the cd.

Proceeds from the book, as well as private donations will be used to fund this website.

We had some “Iron City” beer imported from Pennsylvania at the BBQ, and good music from the 60’s and early 70’s. Lots of wonderful conversation and great BBQ ribs. The party only lasted from 2:00PM until 10:30PM when all those over 50 years old decided to retire for the evening.

Farewells were said at the Sunday morning breakfast and we all promised to keep in touch. In retrospect, the intentions were well thought out.
