Dean Woelfle (HSC'69) and
I were married in Limerick,Pennsylvania, on December 30, 1967, and
returned to Scottsbluff until his graduation in January 1969. We then
moved to Dean's hometown - Pekin, IL, where we have remained until
this day. Dean has been teaching Social Science at East Peoria Community
High School for 31 years and has been very active in the community,
including serving 16 1/2 years on the local school board. We have
had three children, Lynette, Brian, and Laura.
I was fortunate to be able
to stay home with the children, during which time I served in a variety
of roles for community public service and school organizations. When
our youngest entered kindergarten, I returned to Bradley University
and earned a bachelors in early childhood education and completed
a Master's in educational administration at Illinois State University.
I have taught preschool, served as the coordinator for the federal
Pekin Even Start family literacy project, been an elementary school
principal, and consultant for family literacy projects. I now serve
as an educational consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education
in Springfield, and have the primary role of working with IL colleges
and universities. Due to the national reforms in teacher preparation,
much of the work I do deals with the redesign of these programs, as
well as the development of Illinois professional standards.
You may have a chance to
meet our children since they are in other parts of the country. Lynette
is married to Joel Steger, and they live in Fairport, NY, which is
southeast of Rochester. Joel teaches Art at the K-6 level and is pursuing
advanced studies in educational administration. On July 5, 1999, they
presented us with our first grandchild, Benjamin Louis Steger, who
is beautiful. (What else would a grandmother say?)
Brian is a professional
photographer and manages a restaurant in Peoria, IL.
Laura is finishing her
senior year at American University in Washington, DC, with multiple
majors. Her primary interest is mass communication and can sometimes
be heard on the national syndicated news reports of the The Motley
Fools in Alexandria, VA. Right now she plans to continue working for
them upon graduation in January.
Thank you for making this
communication possible, and I hope that other former classmates and
friends will join in the dialogue. We had a wonderful time in Scottsbluff,
and cherish the wonderful memories.
